Books for Babies from Nine Months to Twelve Months

At over nine months baby is gaining more control over his body so he is better able to start turning over pages and choosing what he wants to look at. He will probably enjoy books that are full of rhymes and rhythms as he is learning much more about the sounds associated with language.

Books that encourage you to read out loud and use animated voices are great for babies aged around nine to twelve months. Although they'll still enjoy looking at picture books, counting books and alphabet books, they will want to spend time sharing their reading experiences with you. Look out for any books that make you enunciate words well!

“One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” – Dr Seuss

“One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish” by Dr Seuss is a wonderful little toddler book. Although small in size it's big in content and colour.

"From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere". This book is adapted from one of Dr Seuss' best sellers and is a great introduction to the zany world of funny creatures.

You will enjoy sitting with your baby and reading through the tongue twisting rhymes. You will also see baby come back to this book again and again as their understanding of the world increases.

Dr Seuss books in general are a lot of fun and will stay in your baby's bookcase for some years – maybe even thirty six and a half years!

“Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” – Annie Kubler

Annie Kubler's series of baby books are raved about and they are really good fun for all the family. Her “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” book is great fun for the family to sit down and read together. Babies love looking at the illustrations and mummy and daddy can even try out their singing voices.

“Peepo Puppy” – Amazing Baby

The Amazing Baby range of books will continue to inspire babies aged around nine months as they will be exploring the different textures and images throughout the pages of these chunky board books.

A book like “Peepo Puppy” takes baby on an adventure on the farm in his search for the elusive puppy dog. Baby will enjoy looking at the photos of the pigs and ducks on his travels. The book is also small enough for baby to handle – about the size of a CD.

Amazing Baby has chunky board books that are four times the size of a CD so babies will initially find them harder to manage on their own – but these are still well worth a look!

“Mirror Me” – Baby Einstein

Baby Einstein's “Mirror Me” book takes baby on a face adventure where baby is asked to imitate the face he sees on the page in the mirror. This is the only time where sticking out your tongue is legitimate!
