Books for Babies from Three Months to Six Months

By three months, baby is much more aware of the world and will be happier sitting up on your knee. This is the time when much of baby's exploration ends up in his mouth, so be very careful with the kind of books you choose. Babies are good at pulping up cardboard and paper.

Babies will be interested in looking at images of themselves so books that have baby images or mirrors will be entertaining. Textured books work well as baby is going to reach out and try to touch everything.

Cloth books like the ones from Early Learning Centre, Amazon and Mothercare are enjoyed by babies who like to see the bright colours and friendly characters inside the books.

“Flower” – Ladybird Books

“Flower” from Ladybird Books intrigues babies older than three months. The book is brightly coloured with a mirror and a rattle. The cloth book is likely to be played with over and over again as baby learns to turn the pages. Babies will want to explore this book with their hands and mouth.

“Rhyme Time” Electronic Book - VTech

The “Rhyme Time” electronic book from Vtech brings a new kind of challenge to baby. Once baby is sitting up, he will love being able to look at this musical book. It has chunky pages with tabs, so once baby has more control over his pincer grip, he will be able to turn the pages of this book himself. It'is full of traditional nursery rhymes with great colour illustrations.

“First One Hundred Words” – Priddy Books

Babies will be interested in picture books that show everyday items like “First One Hundred Words” from Priddy Books. “First One Hundred Words” is full of photographic illustrations grouped into themes like the home, myself and bathtime. As you point objects out to baby he will begin to relate them to his book when you read together, and as a toddler he will start talking to you to tell you what the objects are.

“Look and Play” – Amazing Baby

Amazing Baby books like “Look and Play” are full of activities as well as images. This book encourages baby to learn about indoors and outdoors using texture

and shapes as it's full of lift-the-flap surprises. It also squeaks if baby pushes a button.

“I Love You” – Amazing Baby

“I Love You” from Amazing Baby has beautiful photographs of babies that will intrigue your little ones. It shows images of baby sleeping,,waking up, in the bath, covered in chocolate and playing peepo. There is room in the back for you to place an image of your own baby.

Other Books

The Baby Einstein range can be introduced as well although babies will probably gain more from the books after nine months.

“Ten Little Fingers (Child's Play)” illustrated by Annie Kubler can be sung to baby. The illustrations help baby to learn about the world around him. It is a beautiful book that baby will probably return to.
