Playing with Baby from 7 Months

At seven months baby will enjoy picking up shapes that she can bang together to make a noise. She will be very good at judging distances and will lean forward to get the objects she wants.

She will also have started to make noises about crawling so giving her toys that encourage her to follow makes sense. The highly mobile VTech “ Move and Crawl Ball” is covered in animal characters and lights that will encourage baby to follow it.

The Tiny Love Developlay activity centre will help baby perfect her motor skills. It's covered in levers and buttons that play classical music and has a surprising jack-in-the-box.

It's double sided so has plenty of fun activities for baby including the chance to hear individual instruments in an orchestral piece. Baby can choose to hear the whole orchestral piece or three of the instruments individually.

Babies will love to explore books too – the Baby Einstein series is great at this age.

Baby Einstein books that baby could enjoy are the “Mirror Me” book that has lots of mirrors and animals making faces and the “Rhyme Time” lift-the-flap book that allows baby to discover objects that rhyme. Just make sure you are playing together with these books as baby tends to want to rip the flaps off.

Playing with Baby from 7 Months - Playing Outside

If the weather is good, take baby outside to play on the grass. She'll love to feel the texture of the grass. You can even blow up a paddling pool and fill it with balls or water.

At this stage she will love new experiences and moving around a ball pool will give her a very different playtime. Introduce giant bubble machines too, play Mozart and give her a fantastic multi-sensory experience.

Early Learning Centre do a giant blow-up castle with slide and paddling pool – buy an electric pump as it takes some blowing up. But it can be left in the garden all summer for lots of fun.

Introduce swings to baby – she'll enjoy the motion and feeling the air on her face and hands.

Help baby to sit on a see saw. Little Tikes offers a Teeter Totter Whale that baby will love.

Just make sure that if a baby is in the garden, she is watched all the time. She will want to eat everything, so try and make sure her immediate surroundings are clear of plant or animal life that could harm her.
