Playing with Baby from 2 Months

Baby will be really interested in faces now and objects that move. She will begin to track objects as they move across her field of vision.

The cot mobile will look very different to her as she will recognise that the objects are moving – some cot mobiles like the one from Tiny Love have arms that move in many different ways which will stimulate baby's visual field.

She will study a human face seriously and look for the eyes and nose and mouth.

Any toy that has faces will be of interest now, so although she won't be at the stage where she can play music with “Puppytunes” from Lamaze, she will study the puppy's eyes.

Books that have contrasting patterns and bright colours will also help to develop baby's sense of play. Amazing Baby has a range of books that can be investigated. You can sit your baby close to you and gently talk through a couple of the images you see on the page of a book.

Cloth books like the one called “Flower” are good for little babies' hands. Baby can touch the textured fabric and notice the mirror on the book cover.

Baby will start to bring her hands into play and will bring them to her mouth in readiness to start exploring the world with her hands and mouth at three months.

She will be really interested in contrasting colours so introducing a toy like a Whoozit or a Stim Mobile may get her excited.

While she is lying on her floor mat you can bring toys to her and gently rub a soft toy against her cheek or ring a little bell by her ear.

Your voice is still important to her and will be for some time to come so continuing to sing songs and nursery rhymes will keep her happy. If you take baby out for a walk keep singing.
