Playing with Baby from 10 Months

Baby will be able to grasp objects, hold more than one object and bang them together.

You can encourage baby to learn to throw soft balls or roll them back and forward. Sit opposite your baby with your legs in the ‘v' position and roll a ball towards her encouraging her to roll it back. Once baby gets the hang of it, you can play it for a while.

Baby will continue to learn about shapes and colours. Leapfrog's Baby Tad can quickly become a firm friend with your baby as he sings to baby and encourages her to learn about the world.

To encourage baby's motor skills and creativity, you can start to buy Lego Quattro or Stickle Blocks and Stickle Bricks. Baby will learn how to attach the blocks together to create amazing shapes and creatures. Some blocks are gently scented so baby's auditory senses are intrigued.

Baby can also be introduced to counting through an abacus or stacking counters. Mischief at John Lewis makes some excellent simple wooden toys for baby to discover.

There are many toys and books that can be bought for baby at this age. It does boil down to personal preference in the end, but if you can create a balance between electronic toys, dvds, books, activity toys and wooden toys it will benefit your baby.
