Child psychologist Dr. Pat Spungin has worked with the BTHA to produce 'Solutions Through Fun' - a booklet offering parents tips and hints on how to make best use of their time together, using fun and play in everyday family life. All of the tips and suggestions have come from children not adults. One child commented, 'Just enjoy yourself and go bonkers!' and another said, "Be relaxed and chilled and have a good time because life is short."

Children's Top 10 Tips for adults:

  1. Parents should spend one to one time with children. Find time to play, give each child special uninterrupted time
  2. Go an play sports in park together such as football, tennis, catch.Ggo on bicycle rides together.
  3. Play as a family - board games, cards or puzzles, whatever the family finds fun.
  4. Spend less time on the PC slob a little and do less housework.
  5. Play games and activities such as hide & seek or pig-in-the-middle
  6. Days out to the seaside, museum, zoo, castles, theatre, bowling or cinema.
  7. Baking and cooking together can be rewarding
  8. Do arts & crafts such as painting, pottery and make things. Write eachother stories or make masks.
  9. Parents come home from work earlier
  10. 10 Be playful, tell jokes and be funny.
  11. 10 Watch Television and films together

'Whether you have five minutes or a whole evening, your children will benefit by you just being there. What adults may find dull, children find fun - such as cooking, playing games and washing the car.
