How to Choose and Buy Toys for Toddlers – 18 - 24 months

Toddlers might want to sit at their own table now or lounge in their own armchair as they imitate mummy and daddy.

DVDs for Toddlers

In moderation, toddlers will be interested in watching DVDs – there are so many to choose from it's worth asking friends and neighbours what their own children watch or watched.

There are a few brands that produce DVDs specially designed for toddlers to watch like Baby Einstein, Balamory, Bob the Builder, Barney the Dinosaur, Fimbles and Teletubbies.

If you do want to buy DVDs or videos for your toddler, it's worth noting that they may not show that much interest initially but if you put them on again they may start demanding to watch them.

Choose brands that you think best match your needs – some parents for instance only want their toddler to see videos with British accents while others are more concerned with the inclusion of morals like sharing and family.

Toys for Creativity

Creativity plays a huge part now, so look at art easels, paints and brushes and musical instruments like the “Bee Bop Band” from The Great Little Trading Company or instruments from the Early Learning Centre.

Toys for Sharing

At this age your toddler is learning really fast about socialising, playing with others and sharing so look for toys that encourage toddler to interact with others. Play tea-set toys, kettles and kitchens are of interest to toddler and he'll make you a cup of tea or twenty.

Skill Development Toys

Don't forget about the physical motor skills – a safe trampoline will encourage toddler to develop his balance and instil confidence in his ability. Look at investing in a ball pit, water table or a sandpit to encourage toddler to learn about his world.
