Chad Valley Toys |
Chad Valley ToysChad Valley is associated with toys that allow babies and toddlers to use their imagination and play pretend games. Chad Valley has created a raft of toys from pirate ships to farm tractors and construction trucks to dressing up toys to working play CD systems. The Chad Valley Toy Company has its origins in a printing and bookbinding business that was set up in Birmingham in the 1800s. The company produced its first soft toys, jointed Teddy Bears in 1915. And by the early 1930's they were selling bears in 14 different sizes. In 1938 the Chad Valley Company was granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment, ‘Toymakers to Her Majesty the Queen'. Later in 1953 due to a new Queen Elizabeth the warrant was re-titled ‘Toymakers to Her Majesty the Queen Mother'. In the 1970's Chad Valley began to experience problems – it was taken over in 1978 by Palitoy and then in 1988 Woolworths acquired the Chad Valley trade name. In 2008 the retail chain Woolworths disappeared from the high street and for a time ceased online sales on it's web site. Woolworths.co.uk is now up and running again but time will tell if the shock of the disappearance of hundreds of family favourit shops will have a detrimental impact to the online business. In January 2009 it was announced that catalogue store Argos had bought Chad Valley saying the brand, which has a "very strong heritage, with independent research confirming high recognition among UK consumers", To find out more about the different online baby and nursery toy shops and stores visit our Top Sites section.
